The Kenyan government has attracted major investment bids from Egyptian construction firms for the construction of 100 mega multi-purpose dams. The firms have submitted bids through the on-going Public-Private Partnership (PPP) projects initiative, demonstrating their appetite for large investment in Kenya.
At least 10 projects have interested their immediate participation.
The Cabinet Secretary for Water, Irrigation and Sanitation Alice Wahome, assured the investors of a robust enabling environment in the country and sound provisions under the PPP Act.
She disclosed that the firms are also keen on participating in larger irrigation and sanitation projects in the country. “This is a major vote of confidence in Kenya’s economy and its commitment to public-private partnerships,” said the Cabinet Secretary .
These engagements are significant for Kenya’s water, irrigation and sanitation sector, and it has a potential to create jobs, boost economic growth, and improve the lives of millions of Kenyans.
“We are excited to be a part of Kenya’s development story,” said the executives of the construction firms.
“We believe that our expertise and experience can make a real difference in the lives of Kenyans.”
The Kenya Kwanza administration has plans of constructing dozens of dams across the country as a way of addressing water shortage for domestic and irrigation.
