Mandera Senator Ali Roba has slammed Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua for blaming the National Intelligence Service (NIS) over the recent protests that wreaked havoc in many parts of the country.
On Wednesday, the DP accused NIS boss Noordin Haji for failing to notify President William Ruto in time about the magnitude of the demonstrations so as to curb destruction of property and loss of lives.
Speaking to the media yesterday, Roba termed DP Gachagua’s remarks as ‘diversion tactic by the government’.
Roba called on leaders to respect the NIS institution and cease dragging it into the politics surrounding the withdrawn Finance Bill 2024/2025.
“The public’s discontent with the Finance Bill was well-known, making the chaos and loss of lives predictable. Blaming Haji is a diversion from government accountability,” the Senator said.
He said the remarks by the country’s second-in-command were ‘bias’, adding that NIS holds a critical role in the country’s governance.
“It is imperative for leaders to rise above regional biases, respect the critical role of NIS leadership, and address the root causes of public discontent to ensure trust in our national institutions,” Roba said.
“The unfounded and morally reprehensible blame on Haji is rooted in regional biases rather than professional qualifications,” he added.
