Makueni County has set aside Sh46 million in the 2024/2025 financial year for the completion of the Mbooni Sub County Hospital, Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jr has said.
Mutula said that the money would go towards constructing a mother and child section, laboratory, ultra-modern theatre, clinical rooms and also equip the health facility.
“Once complete, the hospital will cater as a catchment area for 31,000 residents whereby 200 people are expected to visit the health facility daily,” said Mutula at the Hospital in Kikima Town where he commissioned a new X-ray Machine on Wednesday.
The Governor further said that the government would upgrade the mortuary at the health facility while saying an appropriate place would be identified to serve as a dumpsite in an effort to ensure the town is clean.
The County Government of Makueni through the Department of Education ICT, and Internship has recruited 125 interns to be apprenticed to various departments for the next one year, Deputy Governor Lucy Mulili has said.
Mulili disclosed that they have recruited 74 men and 51 women including two persons with disability who are professionals in different fields to serve in various departments in the government.
While saying the young men and women will acquire skills from the various departments they will be placed, she added that the government will pay them a stipend of Sh15,000 per month.
“We received 1,984 applications, and following a thorough scrutiny, 74 men and 51 women and two people with disability qualified as they had the required qualifications and were given an opportunity to learn and acquire skills,” said Mulili at Green Park in Wote town.
The national government through the State Department for Housing has commissioned the building of a Sh57 million market at Ewaso Nyiro Trading in Narok North Sub County to boost small-scale vegetable vendors and livestock traders.
Speaking at the trading center, Joel Nkuruma, a representative from the office of the Narok North Member of Parliament Agnes Pareyio said the market will be completed in six months and will boost the economy in the area.
Nkuruma lauded the National government for fulfilling its Bottom-Up Transformation Agenda, as the market will boost the working environment of the market vendors.
The County government of Homa Bay is drafting a master plan for the development of Riwa Special Economic Zone in Rachuonyo North Sub County.
Governor Gladys Wanga said the master plan will be implemented after a topographical survey of the park is concluded.
She said the survey will map out areas to be set aside for establishing factories and other amenities.
Wanga said they were collaborating in the roll out with agencies such as Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA), Special Economic Zone Authority, National Land Commission (NLC) and the National Environment Management Authority (Nema) amongst others.
She noted that the 532-acre industrial park will have multiple companies operating from the same area.
In an ongoing investigation into the breaking and torching of Chieni supermarkets in Nyeri and Nanyuki, police in Nyeri and Laikipia counties have recovered several stolen goods and arrested a number of suspects found in their possession.
Among the recoveries include washing machines, refrigerators, water dispensers, bicycles, kitchenware, food items, clothings among many others.
At a rental house in Nanyuki, 24-year-old Chris Nduni Wamuhu was arrested with a stolen Hisense fridge, Uken water dispenser, coffee cups, teaspoons, hotpot dishes, luminarc plates among others. This is after his image was captured in circulated phone recordings stealing from the supermarket.
In another house still in Nanyuki next to Kengeles club, Moses Njuguna Gachwe, 30, was found with 22 pairs of khaki trousers, 9 T-shirts, 24 under garments (boxers) and sandals, all stolen during the demonstrations.
In the outskirts of the town at Asian Quarters, 35-year-old Charles Kaariri Mumbi was also arrested with a junior ride bike, while John Ndirangu Ndirirtu, 41, was found with six vacuum flasks, a shopping trolley 🛒, an LG fridge and several luminarc plates and cups.
Several other suspects have so far been arrested and more recoveries made, as police continue investigations to nab other identifiable persons captured igniting the fires and disappearing with stolen goods.
