Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya has challenged County Executive staff to ensure efficient and effective service delivery.
This follows the signing of performance contracts by all County Executive Committee (CEC) members, in an event which was presided over by the Governor at the office.
Emphasizing the desire to place Trans Nzoia top on the map as a model of service delivery, Natembeya reminded the CECs the noble role they have to play in realization of this dream.
However, he urged the county staff to embrace and support the performance appraisal system as a tool meant to enhance service delivery instead of perceiving it a mechanism of witch hunt.
In a joint venture to prioritise education and create a conducive learning environment for learners in West Pokot County, the national government has launched a groundbreaking school nutrition programme with an assortment of food rations being distributed to schools.
During the flagging off of food stuff to schools in Kacheliba sub county, West Pokot County Education Director (CDE) Simon Wamae underscored the significance of this initiative revealing that one of the government’s priorities was to ensure quality and affordable education for all in the county. School feeding programme ensures pupils-retention in school, especially those from poor backgrounds.
He stated that a total of 2,251 bags of rice, 979 bags of beans, 245 litres of cooking oil and 98 bales of salt would be distributed to 58 public primary schools to support the learners for the next 45 days in school.
He emphasized the need for creating a supportive and conducive learning environment for the pupils.
An ambitious fish pond project by Lodwar County and Referral Hospital (LCRH) initiated to help serve fish to inpatients at the hospital as part of their menu has yielded fruits, proving that with commitment and focus, relevant authorities can deliver.
The project, facilitated by the County Government and supported by the German Embassy, aims to support all the inpatients across various wards including pediatrics, medical, surgical, maternity and amenity, with the crucial protein.
Lodwar Deputy Director for Administrative Finance, Emmanuella Lomoru said that the fish pond, which was sunk on February 17 last year, started with 4,500 fingerlings and has grown significantly over the past year.
Hospital’s Public Health Officer, Mary Ogutu, stated that they engage with the Department of Fisheries for regular checkups on the fish environment, cleanup, and training on how to effectively feed and care for the fish.
Migori County government, through the Department of Water and Energy has kicked off distribution of water tanks to improve water accessibility among the residents.
Speaking during the official flagging-off of distribution of 40 water tanks, each with a capacity of 10,000 litres, Migori County Executive Member (CECM) for Environment Caleb Opondi said that each ward would receive a water tank to boost access to clean water.
Opondi said that the initiative had allocated water tanks to all forty wards, targeting schools, vocational training centres and dispensaries facing significant water challenges.
He said that the programme identified and prioritised primary, secondary, TVETS and dispensaries that were in critical need of water across the county.
Organisations and foreign embassies like Turkey have been at the forefront, partnering with the county leadership by drilling bore holes in various parts of the county, especially in Nyatike Sub County to ensure clean water accessibility to the county residents.
