Tshimangadzo Mufamadi

Tshimangadzo Mufamadi, a South African local author from Ha-Mashau village, has received his third award at the Seventh African Annual Global Honoree Authors Awards. His book, “Tsumbanḓila ya grade 1-3”, written in both Tshivenḓa and English, was recognized at the ceremony held at Sandton Library in Johannesburg on July 31, 2024.
Mufamadi expressed his excitement about writing a book in his native language, making it accessible to his community, including the elderly, who can have their grandchildren read it to them. He also noted that the book can help non-Tshivenḓa speakers learn the language.
Mufamadi’s inspiration for writing the book came from observing Grade 4 learners struggling with reading and writing due to the transition from their home language to English in the foundation phase. He believes his book, written in both languages, can help learners improve their reading and writing skills.
Mufamadi’s passion for writing began at 17, encouraged by his high school teacher’s feedback on his handwritten manuscripts. Despite facing discouragement, he persevered and is now honored to be recognized for his work. He recommends his book for learners struggling with reading and writing.
