Cabinet Secretary for Investments, Trade, and industry Salim Mvurya handing over to Hassan Ali Joho the incoming Cabinet Secretary for Mining and Blue Economy

In aceremony held at the Ministry headquarters,Outgoing Mining CS Salim Mvurya handed over the office to the incoming CS Hassan Joho. Mvurya is now headed to the Ministry of Investments, Trade and Industry.
The handover marks a pivotal moment for the Ministry as the leadership baton passes from Mvurya, who has overseen The mining and Blue Economy , to joho, a seasoned leader with a focus on developing the country’s mining and blue economy sectors.
During the ceremony, Mvurya reflected on his tenure and expressed confidence in Joho’s ability to lead the Ministry.
“It has been an honor to serve the nation in this capacity, and I am proud of the milestones we have achieved in enhancing Kenya’s Maritime affairs and Blue Economy.I am confident that under Joho’s stewardship, the Ministry will continue to thrive and contribute significantly to our national development goals,” Mvurya stated.
Hassan Joho, formerly the Governor of Mombasa, takes over with a vision to harness the untapped potential of Kenya’s vast marine resources and mineral wealth. In his remarks, Joho emphasized the importance of sustainable development in the mining and blue economy sectors.
“Our oceans and mineral resources hold immense potential for driving economic growth and creating jobs. My focus will be on promoting responsible and sustainable exploitation of these resources to benefit all Kenyans,” he said.
The transition comes at a critical time as the Ministry seeks to position Kenya as a leader in the blue economy and responsible mining practices within the region. Joho’s experience in regional governance and his track record in fostering economic growth in Mombasa are seen as key assets in his new role.
The handover ceremony was attended by government officials, stakeholders from the mining and blue economy sectors, and representatives from international organizations. The event underscores the government’s commitment to ensuring smooth transitions within key ministries to maintain momentum in national development initiatives.
As Joho assumes office, the focus will now shift to how he will steer the Ministry’s agenda in line with Kenya’s Vision 2030 and the sustainable development goals, with particular attention to innovations in the blue economy and the mining sector.
