The Flying Leader, Hear Our Cry

We gave you power, placed our trust,

In hopes you’d lead with hands so just.

But now we see the veil you wear,

Our dreams forgotten in the air.

You spoke of change, of voices heard,

Yet every promise was just a word.

Your heart, it strayed, your eyes grew cold,

While we, the people, watched you fold.

Our hopes, once high, now bruised and torn,

In silence, we are left forlorn.

For every gain you claimed as yours,

We wait outside closed, guarded doors.

Where are the streets you vowed to mend?

Where is the peace you’d help defend?

Instead, we see your coffers swell,

While we are left in shadows’ dwell.

But know this truth, though we feel small,

The tides will shift, and towers fall.

For power built on greed and lies

Will one day crumble ‘neath the skies.

So hear our plea, before you reign,

Return to us, heal our pain.

For what is power, if not to serve,

A leader’s heart, the people deserve.

(Teacher Evans Asikoyo, the poet)
