The Kikuyu Council of Elders (KCE) has said that it does not matter who has the seat of Deputy President but the key point is what the position offers for Kenyans.
“Who or which tribe is in the seat of the Deputy President is not what is important but what kenyans will benefit from the seat,” Wachira wa Kiago KCE national chairman.
Kiago speaking at the KCE headquarters in Ruaka area, Kiambaa Sub-County during a fundraiser of the elders organisation said that the seat of the Deputy President should not be looked at who has been given as Kenyans want a person who will work and serve them well.
“Kenyans want someone who is committed to work and serve them, who will see our children get access to education, hospitals having medicine and serving people well, ensuring that Kenyans lives are safe, the cost of living does not go up and the country’s economy is good,” he said.
He said that the issue of Deputy President is done and dusted and Kenyans should accept the outcome so that the country can move on.
“There is no need for Kenyans fighting and insulting each other over the issue as it is done and as a country we need to move on. When the country is bad it will be for all of us to suffer the consequences and as a Kikuyu community we do not have another country and we need to take care and coexist with all other communities in the country,” he said.
He called on leaders to stop infighting and sit down and forge the way forward of the country as Kenyans are complaining on many issues that are not going well and are affecting their lives negatively.
“Problems in the country are many and people are complaining and it is all Kenyans that have the same problems. The leaders should stop politicking and work and serve Kenyans,’ he said.
The elders condemned femicide acts and called on security agencies to beef up security and bring the culprits to book and called on Kenyans to be vigilant and be their brother’s keeper to help curb the vice.
Kariuki Waweru, Patron KCE Nairobi county said that the people who are charged by the constitution to put Kenyans in harmony follow the law, especially law on public participation.
“Kenyans should be allowed to air their views and their views should be put into account as it is for them that the government is working. Where Kenyans do not appreciate, let the government know as we have spoken as Kenyans,” Kariuki said.
The elders called on the President and the new Deputy President, executive, legislature and judiciary to observe the law to the letter and everybody should play their role while united.
He said that the notion of the mountain not to be touched should end as the mountain has not been touched as it is the politicians’ differences that is bringing the issues but the people of the mountain are united and are living peacefully and going on with their daily businesses.
“We are as peaceful and harmonious as the people of Mt. Kenya region. The politicians’ difference is the one which is bringing all this that the mountain should not be touched and this is not for us,” he said.
The elders said that whoever is in the Deputy President seat and is doing the right things for Kenyan people they are alright and will offer their undivided support as anybody can serve Kenyans
They however said that as elders they will promote cohesion and unity of all communities and foster harmony and peace of all Kenyans.
