Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has called on ODM leader Raila Odinga to work with President William Ruto to ensure progress and unity of the country.
The Deputy President said Raila should prioritise the country before making a decision on hi next course of action.
Kindiki’s sentiments comes after Raila lost the African Union Chairmanship to the Djibouti’s Foreign Affairs minister Mahmoud Youssouf on Saturday at Addis Ababa.
Earlier on his X account, the Deputy President led political leaders and Kenyans in lauding the former Prime Minister for contesting in the succession race of the African Union Commission (AUC) chairperson despite loosing.
Odinga lost the race in the exercise conducted in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia on Saturday.
Kindiki took to his X account lauding Odinga’s resilience in the race, further praising President William Ruto for his solid support in lobbying for Kenya’s candidate.
“We remain a proud nation that we came so close. Today was not our day, our day will come. Thanks to all the friends of Kenya who stood with us when it mattered,” he wrote.
“Our loss despite such a superior candidate with a clear agenda for the continent and after such an energetic campaign requires that we figure out what else to get right in future bids.”
The DP maintained that Odinga was the top most “qualified, decorated, and ideologically anchored candidate” Kenya has ever fronted for a continental contest.
He noted that the over 20 countries that backed Kenya’s candidate signaled strong confidence in the country’s leadership on the continent.
At the same time ,Kindiki promised that the government will revive and complete all the stalled projects in Meru County.
He appealed to the church to continue praying for the country as the church has the moral authority to correct the government.
The DP was speaking when he attended the installation and ordination of Bishop Stephen Mawira at Ntemwene Methodist Church.
Speaking during a service at Ntemwene Methodist Church in Nkubu, Prof. Kindiki announced that he will meet all Meru County leaders at his Karen office in Nairobi on Tuesday to deliberate on development issues.
He was, however, firm that the meeting would not be a platform for political discussions regarding the county’s leadership.
“I will not discuss politics on who will be governor or MP. My focus is on development and ensuring that projects benefiting the people of Meru are completed,” said the DP.
Prof. Kindiki lauded the church for its role in correcting government actions, improving moral standards, and promoting unity in the country.
He revealed that in the next two weeks, he will also hold a meeting with Methodist Church leaders in Karen to explore ways of collaborating on development initiatives.
Reaffirming his commitment to serving all Kenyans, the DP assured residents that Meru and Tharaka Nithi counties would not be left behind in national development plans.
During the church gathering, Meru County leaders, including Governor Kawira Mwangaza and her Deputy Isaac Mutuma, were present but did not address the congregation.
In a move that signaled his intent to keep the event non-political, DP Kindiki only introduced the leaders, including Members of County Assembly (MCAs), as he maintained that the occasion was a religious service.
