The State Department for Public Health and Professional Standards, headed by Principal Secretary Mary Muthoni, hosted a Valentine-themed medical camp centered on critical health services including Maternal Health & Nutrition, Nutritional Screening & Assessment, Breastfeeding Support & Education, and Diabetes Risk Assessment & Management. In addition to these services, the camp included community outreach programs aimed at raising awareness about the prevention and management of drug and substance abuse, underscoring the value of healthy living and making informed health choices.
Speaking at the event, PS Mary Muthoni reaffirmed the government’s commitment to Primary and Preventive Healthcare, emphasizing the role of early detection, education, and timely interventions in achieving better health outcomes.
Plans for the realization of a digital superhighway and creative economy in Trans Nzoia County are on course. This is evident following handover of the site for the construction of a modern digital center of excellence to the contractor at Cherangany Sub County headquarters.
Addressing the press before overseeing the handover exercise Friday, Konza Technopolis Chief Manager Construction, Operations Management Engineer Antony Sang said that construction of the digital center is among the steps the government is undertaking to fulfill creation of a Digital Superhighway and Creative Economy as envisaged in the Bottom-up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA). Eng. Sang said that once completed, the project will among other things help empower businesses and communities in various sectors like education, healthcare and agriculture through digital connectivity.
Thousands of enthusiastic youths Friday thronged the Mama Ngina Waterfront to try their chance for 300 truck drivers and 100 forklift operators’ overseas jobs announced by the Mombasa County Assembly Speaker Aharub Khatri. Successful applicants will work for the DP World organisation, a multinational logistics company. The recruitment by DP World’s company relieved many families in Mombasa, where unemployment has been a major concern. The job opportunities are expected to provide a significant boost to the local economy and empower young people to build a better future for themselves.
Speaker Khatri expressed his gratitude to DP World, for the numerous job opportunities for Mombasa youths.
Turkana County government has partnered with Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) to train thirty agricultural trainees in abid to enhance the capacity of refugees and host community for climate resilience and improving livelihoods. The training, titled “Enhancing the Capacity of Refugee Host Communities for Climate Resilience and Livelihood Improvement,” covers critical areas such as climate-smart agriculture, soil and water conservation, commercialisation of non-timber resources, and community governance.
Participants will also visit model farms and past programme beneficiaries for hands-on learning and benchmarking. Turkana County, part of Kenya’s Arid and Semi-Arid Lands (ASALs), faces severe drought and food insecurity. The situation is further exacerbated by high refugee populations.
While officially opening the workshop, JKUAT Vice Chancellor Prof Victoria Wambui Ngumi emphasised the university’s commitment to empowering communities through knowledge transfer.

The team leader, James Njuguna Mahuria who is the chairman of Jeremiah Mugi Foundation said they were ready to host delegates from all the 47 counties who are expected at the fete which will take place at Kabiru-ini Show grounds near Nyeri town. He further said announcements effecting many issues, among them compensation of the former freedom fighters alongside their descendants will be made during the ceremony tomorrow.
