Dr. Moronya Asha Hezbon, the Chairperson of the Gusii Youth Bunge Sacco a society that operates in both Kisii and Nyamira counties has officially launched a five-year strategic plan aimed at serving the financial needs of its members and fostering sustainable growth.
Speaking during the launch of the plan, which covers the period from 2025 to 2030, Dr. Moronya highlighted the importance of collaboration in achieving Sacco’s goals.
“We have had a number of stakeholders here with whom we are collaborating to ensure that the growth of the Sacco remains on a positive trend,” he stated.
Moronya acknowledged the support and partnership of key institutions such as the World Bank, through the National Agriculture Value Chain Development Project (NAVCDP), as well as the Cooperative Insurance Company and the Cooperative Bank. These partnerships, she emphasized, are crucial in propelling the Sacco to greater heights.
County Executive in charge of Trade, Tourism, Industry, and Marketing Cyrus Masenge Nyabicha , commended the initiative, calling it a critical roadmap.
He emphasized the county government’s commitment to supporting SACCOs and ensuring their growth and development.
“This strategic plan is a great stride towards ensuring that SACCOs like Gusii Youth Bunge Sacco can remain afloat amid the tough economic times ahead. It gives them a clear roadmap to navigate the future strategically,” said Nyabicha.
He further assured that the County Government remains fully committed to collaborating with SACCOs to help them grow and become more resilient.
“When you formulate a strategic plan, it gives you a roadmap through which you remain sustainable as an organization,” he added.
Dr. Moronya reiterated that the primary goal of launching the strategic plan is to anticipate and mitigate unforeseen challenges that may arise.
Referring to the past funding cuts by USAID, Dr Moronya noted that they have witnessed cases where many U.S.-funded programs in Kenya and across Africa were suddenly stopped.
“That is why it’s crucial for organizations to strategically position themselves. When such donor funding stops, those with a clear plan and strong foundation are able to remain stable and sustainable, “he said.
