Boda bodas as others nickname them ‘nduthi gang” has in the recent past attacked motorists over minor offences. This has happened over a long time that in turn it has led to hostility between them and motorists.
Politicians are on the forefront in promoting this menace. So many crimes caused by the boda boda have been let to slide. The politicians promote them by building those sheds and jackets yet they continue attacking almost everyone.
First, due to lack of regulation from Government agencies that are tasked with the mandate to ensure they observe various rules, the boda boda gang have engaged in most crimes and let free.
The Government needs to ensure agencies such as National Transport and Safety Authority works hand in hand with the traffic police to ensure sanity is restored in this sector.
Secondly, the unconcerned traffic police in our country have promoted the rise of criminal activities. They are out to solicit bribes from them. Some are too lazy to chase the offenders. This simply implies they don’t want to work.
This calls for a crackdown in the police department to pick out the lazy bones and put them in probation.
Thirdly, there is a divide between the rich and the poor. The motorists are deemed to be the rich while the boda boda as the poor. This dehumanizes the motorists who are seen as the enemy.
The incident of attacking the woman at burnt forest road was disheartening and this is a wakeup call to various Government agencies to regulate the boda boda sector in order to restore sanity in this country.
