Real Madrid defender Raúl Asencio
The Real Madrid defender said he always trusted justice would prevail, but accepted full responsibility for a separate drink-driving incident.

Real Madrid defender Raúl Asencio broke his silence yesterday after a court acquitted him following a lengthy judicial process he described as one of the most difficult periods of his life.
In a written statement, the 22-year-old reflected on the months spent under legal scrutiny and raised concern about information entering the public domain before the court had delivered its ruling.
“During these months, I have lived through a difficult situation, seeing information published before the courts had ruled,” Asencio said.
He added that, despite the pressure, he never lost faith in the process. “I always trusted that justice would eventually set things right. Today, there is a court ruling that speaks for itself, and I receive it with peace of mind.”
The acquittal ends a prolonged period of uncertainty for Asencio, who continued playing for Real Madrid throughout the proceedings. The case drew widespread attention given his standing at one of the world’s most scrutinised football clubs. For a young defender still establishing himself at the highest level, the months of public attention surrounding the case placed him under a form of pressure few players his age are required to manage.
Asencio used the statement to thank those who stood by him. “I want to express my deepest gratitude to my family, my friends, my agent, my lawyers, and everyone who supported me,” he said. He also acknowledged the club’s handling of the situation. “I want to thank Real Madrid for allowing me to continue working, growing, and enjoying what I love most.”
His ability to maintain focus on football during the process was itself a testament to his resilience and to the environment the club provided. Asencio made a number of first-team appearances during the period, suggesting that neither he nor the coaching staff allowed the off-field situation to derail his development.
Separately, Asencio addressed a drink-driving incident unrelated to the criminal proceedings. On that matter, he offered no qualification. “I am deeply sorry for what happened and I fully accept my responsibility. It has been a learning experience,” he said.
He also appeared to echo a message from his coach that extended beyond the training ground. “I completely agree with my coach — not only on the pitch, but off it as well,” Asencio said.
The defender closed his statement with a pointed declaration. “Now it’s my turn to speak.”
