Boosting Health Care In Mitume Health Dispensary As Facility Receives Water Supply

Mitume Health Dispensary based in the largest slum of Trans Nzoia has received a major boost after the area Member of County Assembly Franis Were supplied the facility with water yesterday.

The facility which has been struggling with water issues for over a year, serves the residents of both Maatisi and Tuwan wards, Making it a crucial facility in the region.

Speaking during the exercise, Were said water is an essential commodity in any running health facility, and has kept his promise of ensuring the facility has adequate water supply.

“Water is a very basic necessity in our lives and its even much more important in our health facilities. Mitume Health Dispensary has been grappling with the issues of water for over the past one year. I can now confirm to the general public that the issue has been sorted out,” Were said.

Together with the county water supply Trans Nzoia Water and Sewerage Company (TransWASCO), the MCA said this will reduce the facility’s budget on purchasing water. Present with the MCA were the facility’s sister-in-charge and the Chairperson Otsiula Tonny,

“I made coordination with our water company and they have solved the water issues affecting the dispensary. Mitume Health Facility is receiving reliable and clean water hence cutting down on their cots of purchasing water,” he said.

Were also gave additional financial support to the facility committee to facilitate further purchase of additional pipes to fit within the facility to the water tank, to act as water reservoir for the facility.

Besides from the facility, the ward also is the home of the mother-baby hospital being built at Tom Mboya Health Center in the county, which the public health officer at Tom Mboya Health Facility Jane Mwenjwe said will reduce infant mortality and home birth in the slums around.

The facility is near completion, which will ne operationally as from November, according to the county’s governor George Natembeya. The county has made major strides in boosting health access to the residents.
