Cartels Won’t Stop Me From Cleaning Tea, Coffee And Milk Sectors – DP Gachagua

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has reiterated his commitment in ensure that farmers reap maximum benefits from their produces.
The Deputy President says his energy is focused on delivering farmers from various cartels that control marketing; take the lions share of the proceeds, leaving farmers who carries the donkey work without income.
Over the weekend, Gachagua used two public platforms, one in Othaya, Nyeri County and the other in Kirinyaga Central, Kirinyaga County to sound a warning bell to cartels, telling them that their days are numbered and they should look for alternative ways of earning a living.
He said the Kenya Kwanza administration will not sit down and watch as peasant farmers in coffee, tea and dairy subsectors are milked dry by ruthless cartels.
The DP said he had very clear instructions from the Head of State to revamp the Coffee, Tea and Milk sectors and ensure farmers reaped maximum benefits.
He thus assured farmers that he will continue spearheading reforms in the multibillion sub sectors, despite resistance from cartels.
On Saturday, the Deputy President visited Kagonye area in Othaya where farmers practice tea, coffee and dairy farming and where he insisted that he will not be cowed in his efforts to ensure the dignity of farmers is restored.

The DP who was accompanied by among others, Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga, Othaya MP Wambugu Wainaina and Nyeri County Assembly Speaker Gichuhi Mwangi added: “Let the cartels look for alternative sources of revenue. They cannot be enjoying the maximum yields while the farmers and their families are languishing in poverty.”
The Deputy President noted that he has already had engagements with all concerned parties in other sub-sectors, including Kenya Tea Development Authority directors and farmers who have agreed on a framework of implementing reforms.
Yesterday at Kerugoya stadium during an interdenominational prayer session which was also attended by President William Ruto, Gachagua reiterated his commitment to deliver as instructed by the Head of State saying there was no way a few individuals would be allowed to suck the farmers blood.
He said already, the cartels were regrouping to frustrate the government’s effort but said their efforts will not bear any fruits.
“We shall firmly deal with these cartels. The good thing is that unlike in the past, President William Ruto and I have no interest in Coffee, Tea or Dairy sectors. Our only interest is to ensure our farmers reap maximum benefits, “he said during the event attendee by dozens of leaders from across the country.
