Worth Noting:
- If you have traveled from Nairobi to Thika probably you could have heard of a place near Thika town known as Ngoingwa which is a relatively dry area where engaging in agriculture is quite tough especially for crops that requires a lot of water.
- These areas which were majorly used for farming their population was lower only later to be subdivided into commercial plots and became an affluent area where wealthy prefer to reside. Those who sold their land at throw away price due to low crop production can be amazed at how costly it is now to own a plot in the same area.
- Kabati also near Thika around ten kilometres shares a related story to Ngoingwa many shunned it days ago but today it has become a prime location where huge number reside and investors are willing to part with huge cash to acquire parcels of land there.
The reality that I had known no longer existed. The places that we have known belong now only to the little world of space on which we map them for our own convenience. None of them was ever more than a thin slice, held between the contiguous impressions that composed our life at that time; remembrance of a particular form is but regret for a particular moment; and houses, roads, avenues are as fugitive, alas, as the years …………Marcel Proust, Swann’s Way.
Before year 2003 in Kenya scrap metal which include old iron sheets, old nails, old water jerrycans, old or torn cooking pans and other metallic items were either stored in houses or dumped in safe places like pits where they could not harm anyone. Old or torn aluminum items were still in demand though not in large quantities then. The business of buying these scrap metals started to boom and the middle men moved from home to home collecting them, weighing them and buying them with an aim of taking them to recycling plants.
Initially some people used to give these waste metallic products for free and were happy that what they feared could injure them and other family members have been taken away. When they realised that these are valuable and the cost depends on the type of metal for example a kilo of aluminum is more costly than that of iron they collected them or safeguarded them aware that they are no longer worthless waste rather they are valuables.
Listening to musicians who were entertaining people in 1960s you will hear how they did it simply for fun with no commercial purposes but as the time has passed the industry have become commercialized. The more famous one is the higher the charges he levies to perform. It is no wonder you can find a musician with several compositions who was famous in those time who cannot claim to have acquired any precious property using sales of his compositions while a musician of current generation with just few songs would claim to be rich due to his records.

In 1990’s in many Kenyan villages possessing a black and white television was seen as a big achievement and almost everyone envied to be blessed like you. Over time things have changed owning such a television today would make many laugh at you due to advancement in technology that have seen many coloured televisions produced including android and touchscreen ones.
In Kenya before the new millennium recommendation from your religious leaders was something that was emphasized by many employers as they knew by then there were few churches, the church leadership had personal interactions with most of their followers and most people associated themselves with one church or the other. When evangelical churches were registered in large numbers and gained a lot of followership it become a little bit hard to trace the followers in religious line as one may keep switching from one denomination to the other. Nowadays many employers do not ask for spiritual referees.
