As political aspirants are busy gearing up to April party nominations, some aspirants from Kericho County have opted to pull out of running for elective seats.
Edward Kipkemoi Kemei (Kerichot) from Chemosot Ward is the latest to shelve his political ambitions of becoming the Senator of Kericho County, citing the need to support the current Senator Aaron Cheruiyot grab the UDA ticket, so as to have a united front when campaigning for Deputy President William Ruto’s presidential bid.
Kemei’s move makes Senator Cheruiyot the only one in the the region’s dominant party UDA vying for the senatorial position.
Kemei said that he came to the conclusion to step down for Aaron after consulting with his supporters and other aspirants from the region who are in the same party, where he promised to work together with Cheruiyot to make Kericho great.
According to Kemei this will enable his opponent Senator Cheruiyot to focus on National Politics in solidarity with Dr. William Samoei Ruto in building the hustler nation.
“My wish is to work with Senator Aaron Cheruiyot in uplifting the interests of our people, it is useless to for for a smaller hunt and loose a bigger hunt, which is the presidency,” Kemei said.
He asked Kenyans from all walks of life to unite and reject what he said retrogressive and purposeless political formations, whose main aim is to greedily share power and leadership positions.
Kemei was speaking at his home in Chemosot Ward on Sunday during a consultative meeting with his supporters attended by various political aspirants from the region, where he thanked Kericho residents for trusting and believing in his leadership, promising to work for them in the future.
Present was Gubernatorial Aspirant Dr. Erick Mutai who supported Kemei for his bold move to sacrifice his bid saying this is an act of bravery which will allow UDA party to build a united front.
Mutai also expressed his wish to have talks with aspirants from other parties to pave way for Senator Aaron Cheruiyot to go unopposed as Kericho Senator in what he said is negotiated democracy.
