CLIMATE CHANGES SHOULD BE ADDRESSED AS SOON AS POSSIBLE

Global Warming vs. Climate Change

Worth Noting:

  • In my opinion while preparing for COP27 in Egypt to demand for climate actions, developed countries should focus on supporting countries that are more vulnerable to climate change to restore the loss and damage of properties that they experienced due to climate impacts.
  • More so, ministry of water and environment should put in place climate change regulations to enforce climate change policies so as to increase on mitigation and adaptation measures.
  • In addition, the National Forest Authority and other relevant stake holders should enforce laws to reduce deforestation, encroachment of wetlands so as reduce on the carbon gas emissions.

There has been increasing cases of environmental changes in Uganda and around the globe. Just of recent in September, 15people were killed in the massive landslides that happened in kasese. Early this month, same fate fell on the people of Bundibugyo and Kisoro leading to loss of livelihoods. It is not the first time Uganda experiencing such rather there is an urgent need to address daily routine of these climatic changes. It’s clear that little attention has been given to such cases calling for more deaths, loss and damage of people and crops leading to food insecurities, and suffering of both people and animals. These are natural calamities that must be addressed with a lot of concern.

Furthermore, Meteologists should forecast the weather and help in relocating people in the areas experiencing heavy rains due to these climatic changes. Long term climatic changes can directly or indirectly affect many aspects of society in potentially disruptive ways. More so, human activities such as deforestation, wetland encroachment, bush burning among others are the most significant drivers of the observed climatic changes. These climate changes affect global temperature to rise while fighting for the reduction of Greenhouse Gas Emissions (GHG) to 1.5 degrees celcius below the industrial level and the precipitation patterns which in turn influence the intensity and the frequency of extreme environmental events.

In my opinion while preparing for COP27 in Egypt to demand for climate actions, developed countries should focus on supporting countries that are more vulnerable to climate change to restore the loss and damage of properties that they experienced due to climate impacts. More so, ministry of water and environment should put in place climate change regulations to enforce climate change policies so as to increase on mitigation and adaptation measures.

In addition, the National Forest Authority and other relevant stake holders should enforce laws to reduce deforestation, encroachment of wetlands so as reduce on the carbon gas emissions. More so, the government should take much responsibility in educating communities on the dangers of human activities to the environmental variations, some activities like deforestation, bush burning, swamp reclamation among others should be addressed with much concern.

There is also need for public awareness on restoration of degraded wet lands and should be one of the toppest campaigns in fighting climate changes.

Lastly, let’s all join hands, energy and concentration in promoting a greener economy.

We demand climate justice
