Dr Margaret Nyangate Nyakang'o when she appeared in court yesterday

Controller of Budget, Dr. Margaret Nyangate Nyakang’o was yesterday charged with; defrauding Claudia Mutungi of Ksh 29 million; operating FEB Sacco Society Limited without a valid licence; and forgery.
She pleaded not guilty to the 3 counts before Mombasa Chief Magistrate Alex Ithuku.
She was released on Ksh 2 million bond with a surety of a similar amount with an alternative cash bail of Ksh 500,000.
Court further issued summons to Dr. Nyakang’o’s co-accused namely: Jackson Ngure Wanjau, Susan Kendi Kiambati, James Makena Wanyangi, John Muchira Kithaka and Jane Karuu Ndanyi, Others included: Muthoni Eliphas, Joan Chumo, Mercy Ndura Mukora, Gregory Mwangangi Mailu and Michael Kipkirui.
The charges read that Dr. Nyakang’o allegedly: Defrauded Claudia Mweni Mutungi of Ksh 29 million on diverse dates between 1 November, 2019 and 1 May, 2020 by pretending to operate a genuine investment namely FEB Sacco Ltd.
The second count accused her of Operating FEB Sacco Society Limited without a valid licence from Sacco Regulatory Authority with the third accusation stating that she forged Claudia Mweni Mutungi’s signature on 2 December, 2019 at FEB Sacco Society Limited within Mombasa.
Prosecution was led by ODPP Coast Regional Head, Mr. Peter Kiprop alongside Mr. Alex Gituma.
The case will be mentioned on 13th Dec. 2023.
