DCP allied Senators; Karungo Thang'wa, John Methu, John Kinyua, Samuel Seki Kanar, Joe Nyutu and Kamau Murango
Allies of Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua yesterday turned up in Parliament wearing the party’s signature green coats, days after the outfit secured its first parliamentary seat through the Ol Kalou by-election.
The show of party colours inside the Senate was seen as a celebration of the victory by DCP candidate Sammy Kamau Waweru, who won the seat in the July 16 by-election that attracted intense political competition.
The win marked a major milestone for DCP, which was formed after Gachagua’s fallout with the ruling establishment and has positioned itself as a vehicle for political change ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Gachagua had earlier congratulated Waweru, thanking Ol Kalou voters for what he described as a defence of their dignity and resilience during the campaigns.
The former Deputy President has since used the victory to rally his supporters, saying the outcome demonstrated that voters could not be swayed by money or intimidation.
The green attire by DCP lawmakers and allies in Parliament highlighted the party’s growing visibility as it seeks to expand its influence beyond its traditional support base.
The party is expected to intensify grassroots mobilisation following the Ol Kalou victory.
