Dorcas Rigathi Tours Mombasa Drug Dens, Promise To Rehabilitate Addicts

The Spouse of the Deputy President Pastor Dorcas Rigathi spent the better part of yesterday morning visiting drug dens in Mombasa County.
During her visit she interacted with addicts of various forms of drug abuse in their hideouts in Shimanzi area.
She promised to rehabilitate many of the addicts who have voluntarily agreed to be assisted in quitting the vice.
“Many have looked at you and see nothing good in you. But when I see you people, I see the future of this nation ” she told them.
During her interaction with them, the addicts promised to reform once taken through a rehabilitation process.
Addressing journalists after the tour, she expressed confidence in the government winning the fight against drugs and substance abuse.
“We are going to win.The problem we had before is that we did not have a government goodwill. But this time round you have seen the efforts of the President, the Deputy President and everyone else,” she noted.
Pastor Dorcas is working towards rehabilitation of drug addicts in the region who have expressed the willingness to be rehabilitated.
“We need to treat them and rehabilitate them back in the society, and I can tell you I will push and do what I can to make sure we have a better generation in future,” she said.
Mombasa County Women Representative Zamzam Mohammed who had accompanied Pastor Dorcas challenged the addicts to walk their talk in their reform agenda after many said they had been fired from their previous jobs due to drug addiction.
The team later visited the Miritini rehabilitation Centre which she promised to spearhead its renovation in order to accommodate more addicts.
“I call on all stakeholders to be part of the multi-sectoral response against alcohol and drug abuse and dignify lives in the coast and throughout the nation through partnerships with the Miritini Treatment and Rehabilitation Centre,” she said.
The 2022 survey by NACADA that was released last Friday indicated that one in every 6 Kenyans aged 15-65 years are currently in at least one drug or substance of abuse, which translates to mean more than 4.7 million Kenyans are in the vice.
The prevalence of traditional liquor in the coast region stands at 7.4 per cent while the prevalence of potable spirits is at 4.1 per cent.
