Former Principal Secretary Irungu Nyakera is introducing a new cassava variety for farmers in semi-arid parts of Murang’a County.
Today, the former PS through his Irungu Nyakera Foundation is introducing Cassava Variety KME-08-02 commonly known as Tajirika for lower Murang’a farmers’ to boost their income.
The Foundation plans to improve the participating farmers’ incomes by KSh15,000 per household annually.
Each of the 10,000 participating farmers will be expected to provide a land area of 20 meters square (10mx2m) and prepare it as will be guided by an extension officer from our foundation.
Farmers will also be registered as members of the cassava cooperative for purposes of market access.
