Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua

- Let us face this fact. Politics in our country is tribal and regional based. Because of this, we have been seeing leaders in other regions positioning themselves and reminding the President about his promises to implement their charters.
- This brings me to the question. Why does a caucus of leaders from the Mountain meeting to discuss the same issues raise an eye-brow?
- Well for Gachagua, he is a man on a mission and he understood his job descriptions very well. First, he is DP of the Republic of Kenya and secondly he’s the most senior political leader from Mountain and hence wore the hat of being the kingpin. As such, he won’t allow such distractions to stand in his way.
During the campaigns, President William Ruto (then Kenya Kwanza Presidential Candidate) held regional meetings with leaders from different parts of the country.
The agenda of these meetings was to identify the economic challenges facing the people they represented and craft a charter outlining strategies for addressing and fixing them.
After signing the charter, Dr Ruto always reiterated his commitment to walk the talk.
If I win the election, my government will give priority to issues contained in your respective charters.
The meeting with his diehard allies from Mount Kenya led by Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua, now the Deputy President, was held at Masai Mara in Narok.
The discussions centered on how to revive and turnaround the fortunes of coffee, tea and milk farmers.
Putting money in the pockets of the farmers will be my priority number one, Ruto assured.
Since he was sworn in, DP Gachagua has kept the fire burning. He has been leaving nothing to chance in asserting and stamping his authority as the kingpin of Mount Kenya.
He has so far proved wrong those who thought he didn’t have what it takes to fit in former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s shoes.
In his multi-pronged strategy, Gachagua has made great strides in uniting the leaders of this region.
Last time, we were caught off-guard, in apparent reference to 2022 transition election. We do not want this to happen again.
We have men and women with great potential to steer our region to great heights of prosperity and success.
Most of them are young, talented and energetic leaders.
As the second-in-command, I’m looking forward to groom and prepare them.
The election of former MP Kanini Kega to East Africa Legislative Assembly (EALA) stood out as one of the key indicators.
Though Kanini was a member of Azimio La Umoja-One Kenya Coalition Party and a staunch supporter of Raila Odinga, the DP rallied Kenya Kwanza MPs from the Mountain to support his candidature.
The time of politics is over. Those who supported Raila have seen the light and I have no doubt they will heed my call to support the government of President William Ruto.

The people of the Mountain are entitled to speak out their mind just like those from other parts of Kenya.
As we cross to the New Year, Gachagua has unveiled his resolutions and one thing is clear.
He has forgotten the pre-election promises Kenya Kwanza Coalition Party made to the people of Mt Kenya. He has vowed to give priority to the revival of tea, coffee and milk sectors.
Our farmers have been suffering for long. We want this to now become a thing of the past.
Apparently, here he was sending a stern warning to corrupt cartels that have been reaping from where they did not so that their days were numbered.
As person who hails from Mathioya in Muranga County, my expectation is. All the leaders from the Mountain would rally behind him. The interests of the residents come first than anything else.
For the leaders of other regions, I call upon them to refrain libeling DP as a tribal chieftain.
Your threats to impeach him are baseless and cheap. Read the Constitution to understand this. He has not committed any crime.
Gachagua cannot sit back and watch the interests of his people being targeted for destruction by leaders from other communities.
