Health CS Susan Wafula Meets Netherlands Ambassador over States’ cooperation in the sector

Cabinet Secretary for Health, Dr. Nakhumicha S. Wafula yesterday held a consultative meeting with the Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Maarten Brouwer where they discussed various issues including the ongoing cooperation in the health sector.
Kenya and the Netherlands have a longstanding diplomatic relationship that has resulted in various development projects over the years.
The Dutch Government has been a valuable partner in supporting Kenya’s fight against the Covid-19 pandemic.
In November 2021, Kenya received a donation of over a million doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine, with over half of the doses being donated by the Government of the Netherlands.
The partnership between the two countries extends beyond Covid-19 response. In the past, the Dutch Government has supported infrastructure improvement in 23 hospitals throughout Kenya, and there are ongoing partnerships in various areas, including childhood cancer treatment and Universal Health Coverage initiatives.
Moving forward, the two governments plan to strengthen their cooperation to support Kenya’s agenda on Primary Health Care Networks and Community Health Services, expand social health insurance coverage, and promote local manufacturing of essential health products.
They will also work to enhance global health security and collaborate on pandemic prevention, preparedness, response, and recovery.
