  • Increase the population of the Kikuyu community, with each man required to have a minimum of 5 children.
  • Promote and teach the Kikuyu language among children through the introduction of Kikuyu language classes in primary schools and through village 12.

Kikuyu Men’s Conference (KMC) was held on Saturday at Kenol in Murang’a county. The conference brought together male members of the larger Kikuyu community from Central Kenya.

Topping the declaration were the community’s unity and interests, fight against drugs, among key issues. In a report released by the National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse NACADA in September, Central region led in the consumption of portable spirits at 4.1 percent and use of miraa at 11.9 percent. The region was third in the consumption of alcohol countrywide at 12.8 percent.

Additionally, the women from the region had outcried the high rate of alcohol consumption of men and youths from the region. In April this year, the deputy president conveyed a meeting with leaders from the region to chat away forward on how to fight alcohol menace in the region; the meeting was conveyed by Githunguri constituency Gathoni Wamuchomba.

With the region’s unity seemingly in a limbo, there has been calls recently from leaders of the region for the community to unity as prior, with former Mungiki leader Maina Njenga calling upon leaders to unity.

In a declaration summing up the conversation about the Kikuyu community during the conference, a signed declaration by the group patron and Secretary General Dr. Thuo Mathenge and Sammy Njayakio Wambugu respectively, the members listed down 12 resolutions and declaration as follows;

  1. Promote Kikuyu Nation, its interest and unite the community and its leaders.

The declaration comes amid debates of who is the kingpin and spokesperson of the Mt. Kenya region. Amani Foundation leader Maina Njenga declared himself on recently as the spokesperson of the region, with leaders against former President Uhuru Kenyatta neutralizing his dominance as the region’s kingpin and spokesperson.
