- Since he assumed the office, the President has been mincing no word in reminding the officers in all sector of public life to take their jobs seriously.
- The people of Kenya are your employer. They pay your salaries and allowances. So, you have a responsibility to serve them diligently and in a professional manner.
A few days ago, we survived death narrowly when a wooden electricity pole fell down outside a popular restaurant in Githurai 44.
Defeaning sounds and fierce fire sparkles rent the air and in the ensuing confusion cups and plates were broken down as panicking customers run helter skelter as they scampered for safety.
This situation lasted for some seconds before the power went off here and in the surrounding area.
It was by grace of God that one of those passing by survived as he quickly dodged the falling live wires.
The owner of the resturant-Wa Ndegwa- was also lucky. He used to park his vehicle (s) where the pole fell down and this happened minutes after removing his car there. He did this because he was departing with his spouse.
After the incident, we called and informed Kenya Power (KP).
The workers arrived one hour later and replaced the pole and restored power in the area.
In the meantime, my attention had already shifted to finding out what had caused it.
Noting the wooden pole had broken down in the upper surface of the part that was covered by the soil, my conclusion would be.
This incident was caused by one or combination of the following factors: Corrosion, wear and tear, age factor and integrity of the poles.
With this, I would squarely place the blame on KP poles inspectors.
Their main job was to check the integrity of these poles on regular basis and replace the weak and old ones.
Besides, the wooden poles came from recommended variety of trees and ensure its maturity.
Also, the poles were treated, with special attention being given to the poles along the areas that stood high risk of corrosion.
This is not the first time we have heard about these incidents and, in some instances; this would lead to deaths and destruction of public properties.
Though many incidents happened in rural areas, a good number of them would pass unreported.
Allegedly, some of top KP officers would reach out to journalists with a view to bribing them to kill the stories.
For how will the KP inspectors continue to sleep on job?
Allow me to say this. We are now under a new leadership led by President William Ruto.
Since he assumed the office, the President has been mincing no word in reminding the officers in all sector of public life to take their jobs seriously.
The people of Kenya are your employer. They pay your salaries and allowances. So, you have a responsibility to serve them diligently and in a professional manner.
This means if they fail to heed Ruto’s call, the only option they have is to ship out. Make your choice now.
There were so many jobless Kenyans out there and if given these opportunities they would do better.
