Uganda’s Boxing Promoter 12 Rounds has set foot in Kenya, with promises of good tidings during the launch of Hakuna Mchezo 12 Rounds event that is scheduled for Charter Hall in Nairobi on 24th May this year, Kenya.
Speaking on Monday morning during the launch of the event in Kenya’s Capital city, company legal officer Joshua Sewankambo was in a jubimant mood thanking Kenya Proffesional Boxing Commission ( KPBC ) for issuing them a license to operate legally on Kenyan soil adding that they will make it their mission to improve East Africa’s boxing economically.
” We are happy to be here in Kenya and we will have an event like no other. Our company aims to have six events per year and hopefully three of them can be hosted here in Nairobi with an aim of promoting boxers from other countries too since Nairobi is ranked top among the cities across East and Central Africa,” said Sewankambo adding that he already has three buses that will be filled with boxing fans from Kampala to Nairobi on 24th just to cheer their boxers away from home.
The Hakuna Mchezo 12 Rounds Boxing fight card will have 11 non title bouts with fighters coming mainly from Uganda, seven men and two women while host nation Kenya, Sweden and Malawi will have a boxer each.
” The idea is to promote boxing and have as many bouts both locally and internationally for Kenyan boxers just like we did with the Riyadh Boxing Series that is set to commence again this August. More boxers from Kenya will be tried and tested as we also aim to recruit youngsters from grassroot level countrywide,” added an excited KPBC president Reuben Ndolo who emphasized that Kenya’s heavyweight Denzel Onyango who was involved in the Riyadh Boxing Series last month will also be in this fight card.
The Saturday 24, May 2025 international event in Nairobi is spearheaded by Uganda’s promoter Stephan Ssembuya under his company the 12 Sports Rounds Promotions.
Faisal Ashinda who will be the match maker is in charge of the fight card and has said that he is still working on it with now atleast four out of the eleven having been confirmed while the others are still a work in progress.
Other officials that are involved in this event are KPBC’s Deputy Secretary General ( SG) Julius Odhiambo who is coming in as an Inspector while Stephen Gatonga will be the time keeper and Morris Ndegwa who will be the doctor.
