Kenyan Politics Mourns The Loss Of Simon Ogari: A Legacy Of Service And Dedication

The passing of former Bomachoge Chache MP Simon Ogari at the age of 68 has left a significant void in Kenyan politics. Ogari, who served from 2008 to 2017 as a member of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), was known for his unwavering commitment to his constituents and his close ties with opposition leader Raila Odinga.
Ogari died at his home in Karen, Nairobi, early on September 10, 2024, reportedly after a long illness. His contributions to the political landscape were profound, as he was recognized for his dedication to addressing the needs of his constituents and advocating for regional development.
He began his political career after winning a by-election in 2009, defeating the late Joel Onyancha. Subsequently, he was appointed as the Transport Assistant Minister in the Grand Coalition government and later served as Assistant Minister for Trade and Information and Communications. His tenure was marked by significant legislative initiatives aimed at improving infrastructure and public services in his constituency.
Senator Richard Onyonka, a personal friend and colleague, expressed deep sorrow, stating, “He was a polite, kind, and selfless man who was simple to a fault. His legacy of dedicated service to the people of Bomachoge will remain a guiding example for all of us in leadership.”
Nominated Senator Esther Okenyuri also mourned his loss, highlighting his remarkable leadership and the profound humility with which he served. “He touched many hearts throughout his life,” she noted.
Ogari’s death has prompted an outpouring of tributes from across the political spectrum, reflecting the respect he garnered during his tenure. Leaders from the Gusii region have particularly expressed their condolences, emphasizing the impact he had on local governance and community development.
