Farmers in Kieni constituency have been called to join hands, form groups so as to reap maximum benefits from farming.
The farmers, are currently exploited by brokers and middle men since they don’t have a forum that can assist them negotiate better prices for their produce.
Yesterday, a local philanthropist John Kariuki alias Choromai called farmers in different subsectors to consider forming Cooperatives so as to break the chain of brokerage that has held them captive for years, diminishing their fortune.
Speaking in different forum, including churches where he visited yesterday, Choromai noted that without joining hands, farmers in dairy, livestock, cabbages, onions and others subsectors will continue to count losses.
He said with strong groups, farmers can always have a strong voice and set standards and minimum prices for their different products.
Choromai, a professional accountant started the day at Amboni Catholic Church for a morning Mass before proceeding to Mwireri P.C.E.A. Church where he graced this year’s Woman’s Guild Sunday.
He later joined faithful at Gitegi FGCK church where he also made his contribution in support of roofing of the Church.
Apart from calling on farmers to establish organized groups, Choromai urged his audience to continue praying and supporting the Kenya Kwanza administration for President William Ruto and his Deputy Rigathi Gachagua take the country to greater heights of prosperity.
