Kisumu County will be the meeting point for over 250 leaders and experts next month as they gather for the 4th Kenya Affordable Housing Conference. Set for 7th and 8th August at the forum aims to push fresh ideas and practical ways to make decent housing a reality for more Kenyans.
This year’s theme, Revolutionizing Housing: Innovation Meets Sustainability, reflects a growing push to balance growth with smart building methods. The event, organized by the Kenya Mortgage Refinance Company (KMRC), will draw together voices from government, banks, developers, universities, and global partners.
Speakers include Kisumu Governor Prof. Anyang’ Nyong’o, Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi, Lands and Housing Cabinet Secretary Alice Wahome, and Housing Principal Secretary Charles Hinga. Guests will hear about new building techniques, affordable finance options, and how local laws can help more families own homes.
One special focus will be on green construction. Delegates will explore how to build homes that use less energy and water while keeping costs low. Visitors from India, Malaysia, Tanzania, and Pakistan are also expected to share lessons learned in similar projects back home.
Johnstone Oltetia, who heads KMRC, noted that t the forum is meant to bridge the gap between ideas and real progress.
“Many families work outside the formal system, yet they still need safe and affordable places to live. We want this gathering to help turn talk into action,” he stated.
On the final day, participants will tour new housing projects in Kisumu’s Makasembo, Anderson-Ofafa, and Lumumba Estate. These visits are designed to show what happens when counties and the national government join forces to bring housing plans to life
