Kenyans have been urged to maintain peace as the election date nears.
Presbyterian Church of East Africa (PCEA) Moderator Dr Thegu Mutahi and Nairobi City County gubernatorial candidate Agnes Kagure yesterday appealed to citizens to refrain from violence before, during and after the election.
The two spoke at Nyamachaki PCEA Church in Nyeri town during a requiem service for the late Eunice Muindi. The deceased was the wife to a former church’s moderator, the late Bernard Muindi.
The clergy who presided over the service which was also attended by former moderator, Rev. Jesee Kamau urged Kenyans to embrace peace and unity in a bid to make sure that the economy is not affected by anarchy.
He called on politicians vying various seats to at all times preach peace and desist from using the young to initiate chaos during the on-going campaigns.
He told the youth to learn from politicians they fight for saying; leaders fight on ideological differences but remain friends.
On her part, the Nairobi governor candidate Ms Agnes Kagure, who also attended the service, reiterated the need to embrace peace during this electioneering period.
“We need to maintain peace during this electioneering period because there is life beyond August 9. The best candidates will win the election,” she said.
Supporting the clergy’s sentiments, Kagure who is running as an Independent candidate said there is no need to fight your friend or your neighbour due to short term political differences.
Ms Kagure described the late Moderator Muindi and his wife as her parents saying they assisted in funding her secondary education.
Later, the late Eunice was later buried in their family home in Kathareni area, near Chogoria in Thara Nithi county.
The Muindi’s have been living in Nyeri since his retirement and run a children’s home near Nyeri town
