By Brian Kaleso,

Over the years, Kenya has been a Country full of vibrant talents .From music and film to literature and digital content, Kenyan creators are making significant strides both locally and globally.

However, for this momentum to sustain and grow, there is a pressing need for robust support from all quarters—consumers, businesses, and policymakers. Supporting Kenyan content is not just about national pride; it’s a strategic move towards economic empowerment, cultural preservation, and global recognition.

Consuming and Promoting Local Media is a crucial move .Make a conscious effort to watch Kenyan films, listen to Kenyan music, read books by Kenyan authors, and follow local content creators on digital platforms. Share and promote their work on social media, write reviews, and recommend them to friends and family. Word-of-mouth and online buzz can significantly amplify their reach. Kenyan radios and television channels are mostly heard playing international songs and films. This makes the audience to love the international songs. Kenya has a good number of artists who are only known to their friends and relatives because their song’s doesn’t get a chance to be played in radios. Kenyan media outlets should at least try to play 80% Kenyan content.

Taking part in local cultural events, film festivals, music concerts, and book launches also promotes local content. These events are crucial for the survival and growth of the creative industry. Your attendance not only provides financial support but also boosts the morale of the artists and creators. For example during, The Bahati’s Empire Reality Show Netflix Launch, a lot of Kenyans should have attended to support her.

Kenyans ought to Support Local businesses by purchase goods and services from local businesses that promote and collaborate with Kenyan creative. This includes buying merchandise, subscribing to local streaming services, and patronizing businesses that invest in local content.

Advocating for policies that support the creative industry is key. Engage with policymakers, participate in public consultations, and support organizations that lobby for better infrastructure, funding, and resources for Kenyan creative. Policy support is critical for creating an enabling environment where local content can thrive.
