Joyce Nyambura Mugo

Briefly tell us who you are and more about you

I am Joyce Nyambura Mugo a Journalist by Profession born and raised in Murang’a in a village called Iyego. I started my early education at Iyego primary then joined St. Xavier’s High school after my class 8 exams. After my highschool journey I joined college in 2021 at East Africa Institute of Certified Studies  (EAICS) College where I under took Diploma in Journalism. Have been able to achieve a lot under journalism; talk of being a confident photographer, Videographer, Writer and social media Manager. Have also so far worked with different online platforms enabling me to acquire the needed skills mostly in writing and social media management. Among the platform that have worked with include; KM Media, Mpasho and currently working with Whispers wire.

What motivated you to become who you are now

What motivated me to become the person I am to day is the desire to make a difference in the community which I believe am doing through uncovering hidden truth and informing the community. Moreso, having joined Journalism club back in Highschool has also motivated me to who I am today not forgetting following the foot steps of my role model Yvonne Okwara Matole.

What does your ideal day look like

My ideal day simply starts with me waking up between 6:30 and 7 Am, takes some few minutes to scroll through TikTok and other platforms to be informed after that I do my morning devotion which take 15 – 20min, Make and have breakfast, take a shower, start working till 5pm (online writing), relax for some few hours have dinner and by 10:30 go to bed.

What is the favorite aspect of your work

The favorite aspect of what I do is the fact that am able to make impact everyday through informing. Learning different new skills from other journalist is also a favourite aspect on my field not forgetting touring different places related to my field of work. On top of that, handling different shooting equipments also make me to have good experience and managing skills that helps me to be versed with the technology very well.

 What is the hardest part of what you do

The hardest part of what I do, has to be maintaing success, meeting tight deadline and applying new skills depending on the evolution of technology that changes time to time mostly in equipment such as cameras.

 Have you ever incurred challenges in your work. Please tell us about it.

Yes I have incurred challenges. Depending on online as my main source of information has frequently made me inform my targed audience wrong information, something that sometimes can not be reversed.

How do you foster yourself to keep moving

what fosters me to keep moving are the simple goals that have set and also choosing an environment that suits me and my goals perfectly. Am also aiming to be among top Journalist who have big impact in the society and also in the Media Industry.

 

Do you advertise your work. If yes. Tell us how it has helped you

Yes I do advitise my work. I mostly advitise my work through my WhatsApp status which have helped in increasing the number of people who view and read my articles.

 What advice would you like to give someone that wants to be you

To the person who wants to become like me; the advice I can give is to embrace your own unique qualities and passion not forgetting to put God first in everything.

Given a chance what impact would you bring to the world, nation and to yourself

Given a chance, I would try and make everything that is a basic need available to everyone equally without minding the status of the person.
