Needy students from the Nduti Tea Factory catchment area have received a significant boost to their education journey, thanks to a Ksh 6 million bursary awarded through the Fairtrade Africa premium. This initiative, implemented in collaboration with Nduti Tea Factory, aims to enhance access to education and empower the local community.
The bursary was officially handed over during a ceremony led by Nancy Ndung’u, the Board Chairperson of Nduti Tea Factory, alongside factory directors and representatives from Fairtrade Africa. The event highlighted the factory’s commitment to improving the lives of tea farmers and their families through impactful community development programs.
In her remarks, Nancy Ndung’u encouraged the beneficiaries to make the most of this opportunity by dedicating themselves to their studies. She emphasized the importance of education as a tool for personal and community transformation. “As you resume school this week, remember that education is the key to unlocking your potential and shaping a brighter future,” she said.
The bursary aligns with the broader goals of the factory and its partners to drive social and economic progress within tea-growing communities. By investing in education, the initiative seeks to break the cycle of poverty and inspire a new generation of leaders.
Key stakeholders in the tea industry, including Majani Insurance Brokers Ltd, KTDA PS Enos Njeru, Dr. Kipronoh Ronoh of Ketepa Ltd, and representatives from the KTDA Foundation, were also recognized for their continued support. Their collective efforts reinforce the vision of making Kenyan tea synonymous with quality and sustainability on the global stage.
Through initiatives like this, Nduti Tea Factory and Fairtrade Africa demonstrate their unwavering commitment to empowering tea farmers and their families, setting an inspiring example for other organizations.
