Thika Town MP Alice Ng’ang’a over the weekend oversaw the disbursement of KSh38.79 million in bursaries to support students in secondary and special schools drawn from Township and Hospital wards.

The funds, released as part of the constituency’s education support programme, are aimed at easing the financial burden on families and ensuring learners remain in school.

Speaking during the exercise, Ng’ang’a said the initiative underscores her commitment to expanding access to education and giving every child a fair opportunity to succeed.

“This support is about keeping our children in school and giving every family a fair chance,” she said, urging beneficiaries to remain focused on their studies and make their parents and guardians proud.

She emphasized the transformative power of education, describing it as “the greatest gift” that young people can carry into their future.

The legislator also asked applicants seeking bursaries for tertiary institutions to remain patient, assuring them that their turn will come. “For those who applied for tertiary institutions, kindly remain patient,” she said, in remarks that hinted at a phased disbursement plan.

Ng’ang’a, popularly known as “Mama Simba,” used the occasion to encourage students to remain resilient and committed to their goals despite challenges. She noted that consistent effort, no matter how small, eventually leads to meaningful results.

“The little progress each day adds up to big results. Whatever you planted, in due time your harvest will surely come,” she said.

Her remarks blended mentorship with motivation, as she urged learners to stay disciplined and believe in their dreams, noting that success often becomes visible during the most challenging moments.

The bursary programme is part of a broader effort by the Thika Town constituency leadership to promote education and support vulnerable learners, particularly those in day secondary schools and special institutions.

The disbursement comes amid increased calls for leaders to prioritize education funding at the grassroots level, as many families continue to grapple with the rising cost of schooling.

Ng’ang’a’s latest move is expected to benefit hundreds of students and provide relief to households struggling to meet education expenses, reinforcing the role of constituency bursaries as a critical lifeline in Kenya’s education sector.
