A tree-planting initiative aimed at boosting livelihoods and environmental conservation has been rolled out in Othaya Constituency, with 5,000 Hass avocado seedlings distributed to farmers in Chinga and Karima wards.

The exercise, led by area Member of Parliament, Wambugu Wainaina alias Kírīma through the Wambugu Wainaina Foundation, is part of efforts to promote agribusiness and enhance household incomes while supporting sustainable land use.

Speaking during the distribution, one of the MP’s aide Macharia Joel said the initiative is designed to empower farmers economically by encouraging adoption of high-value crops such as Hass avocados, which have strong market demand locally and internationally.

He noted that beyond environmental benefits, the programme is intended to create long-term economic opportunities for residents by diversifying income sources and strengthening the local economy.

Speaking to this publication, the MP also reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring equitable distribution of development projects and empowerment programmes across all wards in the constituency.

A similar exercise is scheduled to take place place today in Iriaini and Mahiga wards as part of the ongoing rollout.

Farmers thanked the MP for his continued initiatives of empowering them.

A similar exercise was carried out last year where thousands of the constituents also benefitted.
