Spouse of the Deputy President Pastor Dorcas Rigathi with Rwandan gospel artist Israel Mbonyi who paid a courtesy call in her office yesterday. Pastor Dorcas wished the ‘Nina Siri na Yesu’ well as he continue with his tours. Israel has been in Kenya for the ‘Africa Worship Experience Concert’ that was held at the Jamhuri Grounds last weekend. He was accompanied by Kenyan Pastor Robert Burale and his band.
Over 12 women representatives have advocated for peace and unity in the country, noting that women and children are the hardest hit in cases of unrest. Led by Murang’a County Women Representative Betty Maina, the leaders urged their counterparts to embrace the message of peace and work together so as to fulfil their election promises. They spoke in Muthithi Ward Kigumo Constituency during a NGAAF economic empowerment forum aimed at uplifting the lives of women and youth organised by the area Woman Representative.
“The government is still intact and devoted towards fulfilling the promise of uplifting the common Mwananchi,” noted Maina. “Our message is that of peace and unity of purpose firmly behind President William Ruto and Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua,” she added.
Despite the growing demand for computer science courses, local universities are facing a shortage of qualified lecturers. Catherine Muraga, Managing Director of Microsoft ADC, expressed concerns that many students are stranded due to the lack of tutors in their respective disciplines. She urged scholars, industry experts, and policymakers to address the issue on time, as the country might lag behind in its push to become one of the world’s largest technology hubs.
Muraga cited the need for expertise in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and quantum computing, stating that institutions are struggling to find enough qualified educators to keep up with the available ones being tapped by the private sector. Zetech University Deputy Vice Chancellor Prof. Alice Njuguna echoed Muraga’s sentiments, stating that the Kenyan market is technologically mature and that the need to address the gaps in the number of highly trained professionals to train students is crucial.
Nakuru County, in partnership with Daraja 360, has conducted interviews for its Textile Hub program for the third cohort at the Nakuru County Empowerment Centre in Bondeni Estate.
Daraja 360 empowers vulnerable families, youths, and children to lead decent and sustainable lives. The program is aimed at individuals with a lower than KCSE level of education and is a catalyst for change, helping to transform the lives of unemployed youth in Nakuru County and foster a more vibrant and sustainable community.
Selected candidates will undergo comprehensive training, covering a wide range of skills including hand stitching, the use of electronic sewing machines and equipment, cutting and fitting, pattern drafting, and branding workshop practices. The Chief Officer for Youth, Sports, and Talent, Alex Maina, appreciated the high turnout, especially the participation of young men, and urged candidates to be punctual and dedicated.
Butere residents are up in arms over the increased space of criminal carried out by unknown people in the area. This comes after two people from Emuleche Sub-Location were murdered in cold blood in the recent past. Area MP Tindi Mwale has condemned the incident and called on the police to arrest the culprits. The residents want the police to increase patrols and respond to their distress calls swiftly before the gangs attack them. However, area OCPD Julius Kiptoo has assured the residents of their safety and has asked members of the public to share vital information with the police to flush out the criminals. He guaranteed members of the public that their reports to the police stations would be held in private.
The Kenya National Federation of Sugarcane Farmers’ Chairperson, Ezra Okoth. Okoth has urged the new Cabinet Secretary for Agriculture and Livestock Development, Dr. Andrew Mwihia, to reconstitute the Sugarcane Pricing Committee. Okoth said that the cane prices per tonne have drastically dropped from Sh 5,900 in March this year to Sh 5,125 in June, and now Sh 4,950 this month. He said that the high cost of production cannot meet the new prices, noting that farmers are incurring losses. “A farmer cannot benefit if the costs per tonne keep reducing while the cost of production is still high,” lamented Okoth. He asked the CS to call for a meeting between sugarcane stakeholders, including millers, the sugar directorate, and farmers, to iron out issues of cane farming in the country.
