Slain popular politician JM Kariuki, Golden Jubilee remembrance week starts today, with climax being on Sunday, the date when 50 years ago, he met his death. During the week, groups of well-wishers and patriotic comrades across the country have appealed to Kenyans to donate foodstuffs, clothing and any other materials to the needy as a way of marking his legacy. JM Kariuki was brutally murdered on March 2, 1975 by suspected first government agents over his relentless struggle fighting for the rights of the oppressed majority of Kenyans. The climax of activities to mark JM 50 th anniversary will take place at the ACK All Saints Cathedral in Nairobi on Sunday. Riggy-G Meets Anko-G: Former Deputy President on Saturday held a consultative meeting with a 2022 Nyeri gubernatorial aspiration, Gachara Kamanga who is popularly known as Anko-G. Originally hailing from Mathira constituency but settled in Kieni Constituency, Anko-G is a development consultant with a wide range of experience in matters policy development, planning and evaluation.
With a degree in applied statistics from University of Reading in the UK, he has worked as a consultant for various national and international organizations including USAID, World Bank, UNDP, and the Kenya government.
After the meeting, Gachagua disclosed that Gachara shared with him his experience from various projects that he has been part of within and outside the country, as well as his opinion on issues especially related to economy management.
Anko-G is expected to contest the Nyeri Governor’s seat in 2027 General Elections.
The Nutrition Interagency Coordinating Committee (NICC) has endorsed Kenya’s commitments for the Nutrition for Growth (N4G) Summit 2025, set for 27th-28th March in Paris, France. The commitments, developed through a government-led consultative process, were validated by the Nutrition Technical Forum (NTF) last Monday before NICC’s approval last Friday. Key focus areas include strengthening nutrition policies, reducing child wasting to below 4%, addressing diet-related non-communicable diseases, expanding school meal programs, enhancing nutrition-sensitive agriculture, and improving accountability systems.
These commitments reaffirm Kenya’s dedication to eliminating malnutrition and achieving global nutrition targets by 2030, recognizing nutrition as vital to national development and economic growth.
The Secretary Administration, Mr. Harun Khator presided over the graduation of Cohort 3 from the Centre for African Leaders in Agriculture (CALA) at the Argyle Grand Hotel, representing PS, Dr. Kipronoh Ronoh Paul. This milestone marks 16 months of dedication, leadership growth, and commitment to transforming Africa’s agrifood systems. He commended AGRA – Sustainably Growing Africa’s Food Systems for its role in strengthening leadership in agriculture through the CALA program. With 25 Kenyan leaders trained, including officers from the Ministry this initiative is shaping the future of the sector. Khator urged the graduates to be champions of transformation by driving climate-smart agriculture, fostering technology adoption, advocating for policy reforms, and promoting sustainable agribusiness.
