Police in Eldoret have arrested a group of 10 youth suspected of harassing business operators and the public in the town and its outskirts, demanding money by force.
Police in Eldoret Uasin Gishu have uncovered a motorcycle theft syndicate through an intelligence-led operation following several cases reported by individuals who had lost their motorbikes through theft.
Uasin Gishu County Police Commander Benjamin Mwanthi revealed that they have been following motorbike theft for quite some time and have been able to uncover the theft racket following information from the public and their own investigation.
They were able to nab 59 motorcycles and 35 separate motorbike engines, which they suspected were associated with theft. Mwanthi appealed to the public, especially bodaboda riders, to come forward and identify their bikes to help the police in further investigation.
The thieves remove and switch off the tracking device installed by the selling company, then take the bikes to a garage, where they erase the original chassis number and imprint new ones on the engines and frames while exchanging various parts and altering their original colours.

Migori County MP Fatuma Mohammad has launched a bursary and sanitary towel initiative to improve girls’ retention in schools.
The initiative, which will benefit 642 schools in the county, will target 74,715 girls.
Over Sh7 million worth of bursaries will be disbursed to support students in the county.
The Fatuma Foundation has also established a small plant to manufacture reusable sanitary pads to increase distribution in girls’ schools.
The partnership between the Ministry of Gender and the Office of the Woman Representative will continue to provide sanitary towels to school-going children.

The CECM for Social Development, Sumeya Bishar, has praised Mandera County for donating mobility kits to over 300 persons with disabilities (PWDs).
The kits include wheelchairs, foldable steel wheelchairs, elbow crutches, tricycles, walking frames, and white canes.
The initiative aims to improve the quality of life, mobility, and independence of PWDs.
Bishar emphasised the need to support these groups, stating that they have unmatched talents that can help them escape poverty.
Traders in Kilgoris have complained about uncollected garbage piling up at the gates of Kilgoris municipal market and its environs, exposing residents to the risk of disease outbreak.
The traders are calling on the county government to mop up the garbage and find a dumpsite.
“Traders are not enjoying the working conditions here in Kilgoris Market; garbage is littered all over, and the town is dirty,” added Ledama.
Conservation Secretary in the State Department for Wildlife, Dr. John Chumo, underscored the need to protect mega water catchment towers like Maasai Mau Forest, which is the source of the River Mara, which flows across the Maasai Mara National Reserve.
“The wildebeest migration occurs across the River Mara, and it attracts millions of visitors across the world who flock to the Mara to watch the spectacular occurence. This is why we need to conserve our environment to keep the rivers flowing,” he said.
