Nyeri International Coffee Expo Kicks Off With World Dealers Visiting

The two-day Nyeri International Coffee Expo (NICE) being held at Dedan Kimathi University of Technology has attracted over 20 international coffee buyers.

The NICE Chief Executive Solomon Mburu said the event sought to connect  Nyeri farmers with direct international buyers killing the middlemen and making the farmers smile all the way to the bank.

The team of Global Coffee Buyers from Turkey, USA, Singapore, UK, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, UAE, China and Germany are in Nyeri for the Nyeri Coffee Origin Trip.

The objectives of the Nyeri Coffee Origin Trip are to; Promote Nyeri coffee to international buyers, Help coffee farmers in Nyeri to build relationships with potential buyers, Educate buyers about the coffee growing process in Nyeri, Showcase the unique flavor profiles of Nyeri coffee and provide an opportunity for buyers to taste coffee directly from the farm.

The benefits of the Nyeri Coffee Origin trip to Nyeri farmers include; Increased exposure to International buyers, Potential to sell coffee directly to buyers at a higher price, Improved relationships with buyers, Access to information and expertise from buyers, Increased knowledge of the coffee market.

The Nyeri Coffee Origin Trip is a valuable opportunity for Nyeri farmers to connect with international buyers and to learn about the global coffee market. The Trip will help farmers to increase their incomes and to improve the quality of their coffee.

NICE Director Martin Ndirangu said the international buyers first visited several Coffee farmers in Nyeri and also met the officials of several coffee factories in the county.

He said this was a  unique Expo since for the first time they attracted a high number of international buyers.

NICE Patron Wambugu Nyamu said buyers also visited Dedan Kimathi University’s Coffee cupping facilities to taste their preferred coffee before entering into agreement with coffee farmers.

Kenyan coffee is known for its rich aroma and tastes and is mostly used to blend other coffees on the world stage.

Mburu also thanked the National Government and the County Government of Nyeri for joining hands in the event and for coffee reforms.
