Nyeri County Former First Lady has decamped from Deputy President William Ruto led UDA party citing reservations on its internal democracy.
Ms Margaret Karungaru Gachagua, wife to the first area governor, the late Nderitu Gachagua said she had decided to leave the party as it had not demonstrated that it will carry out free and fair nomination process ahead of the General Election slated for August 9.
Ms Karungaru who is seeking to be the third Women Representative in the National Assembly said she would be going for the seat as an independent candidate.
She ditched the party ahead of nominations in April sighting uncertainty in the way the process will be conducted but insisted that she will still support DP William Ruto’s Presidential bid.
Mrs Gachagua, a former High School Principal is an alumni of Alliance Girls High School & University of Nairobi.
During the late Nderitu tenure, she traversed the county championing for the interests women, youth and marginalized groups and is riding on these issues to endear herself with the electorate.
She is popular across Nyeri County and remains an icon in her capacity as first Nyeri County first lady having helped define the role of that title and privileges that come with it, a record that still stands to outshine itself.
Some of her deeds could easily be felt then and even now as they spread in every part of the county.
With her exit in UDA, the Incumbent Women Representative Rahab Mukami will be squaring for the party nomination with among others Ms Jacinta Wahome.
