ON Writing An Indigenous Language Book- Lorato Moalosi

1. Who are you?

I’m Lorato Moalosi. I was born and grew up in Francistown. Got married here in Francistown with 3 kids.

I am a teacher by profession, having taught for 15 years. 

2. Where are you from?

I come from Tonota in the central region of Botswana

3. When did you begin writing?

I started writing at primary school. I used to write conversations for us to act them, way back at primary school.

4. How do you feel about your upcoming book?

I feel proud and excited to have completed my book and to share it with the world. It was a labor of love and I put a lot of time and effort into making it the best it could be. I hope that it will resonate with readers and bring them enjoyment and insight. I’m also eager to hear feedback and to learn what people think of

8. What your book about?

The book is about breaking barriers. It is all about encouraging those born without a silver spoon, to say that it wasn’t their choice that they found themselves in poor families but it is in their hands how their lives turn out to be. 

9. What will you say to an aspiring author?

To an aspiring author, I would say something tha It takes a lot of courage and determination to write a book. My advice is to follow your passion and write about what inspires you. Be patient with yourself and don’t give up if it takes longer than you expected. Remember that every writer’s journey is different, so try not to compare yourself to others. Just focus on telling the story you want to tell and enjoy the process of creating something new.

10. What motivated you to write?

My teachers always applauded me for the skills I had in writing compositions, that made me to start writing so many stories for others to read and enjoy

11. Indigenous languages are perishing, what’s your view on youth who shun their roots or mother tongue?

I believe that it’s crucial for young people to maintain a connection to their roots and their culture, including their mother tongue. When youth abandon their roots, it can lead to a loss of identity and connection to their heritage. I encourage young people to embrace their mother tongue and use it as a source of pride and strength.

12. What are your future plans?

I plan to write and publish so many books which will be translated to English for the whole world to enjoy and also learn about my country Botswana.
