Optiven limited Chief Excutive Officer Dr George Wachiuri has launched the seventh cohort of the George Wachiuri School of Mentorship, a programme aimed at empowering entrepreneurs, startups and micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) through business training and leadership development.

The mentorship programme, established in 2020, has so far impacted more than 1,000 alumni across the world through six previous cohorts. According to Wachiuri, the initiative seeks to nurture the next generation of business and community leaders by offering practical guidance on entrepreneurship, leadership, branding and personal growth.

Yesterday, Dr Wachiuri said the six-month mentorship programme that will start on July 14 is designed to help entrepreneurs stabilize and grow their businesses, create jobs and positively contribute to the economy.

“Growth becomes easier when you learn from experience. Mentorship helps people avoid common mistakes, gain clarity, sharpen their vision and receive practical support as they build sustainable futures,” he said.

The programme targets entrepreneurs, professionals, startups and MSMEs seeking to strengthen their businesses and leadership skills through direct engagement with mentors and exposure to business processes.

Participants will also have an opportunity to propose topics they wish to better understand and interact directly with Dr Wachiuri during the mentorship sessions.

Wachiuri, who is also an author and transformational leader, said the initiative is focused on helping young entrepreneurso build lasting legacies while improving confidence and innovation in the business sector.

He noted that mentorship remains a critical tool in addressing challenges facing small businesses, especially in a competitive economic environment where many startups struggle to survive beyond their early stages.

The Optiven CEO added that the programme encourages entrepreneurs to think beyond profit-making by creating employment opportunities, paying taxes and adding value to society.

The latest cohort comes at a time when many young Kenyans are increasingly turning to entrepreneurship and small businesses amid rising unemployment and economic uncertainty.

He expressed optimism that the mentorship programme would continue equipping participants with practical knowledge and networks necessary for long-term business success.

Interested participants have been encouraged to register for the programme through the official mentorship platform as preparations begin for the new intake.
