Othaya parliamentary candidate Patrick Ngunjiri has threatened to sue one of his competitors over alleged defamation.
Ngunjiri want one of his competitor, Michael Wambugu Wainaina to admit liability for spreading falsehoods on him with the aim of discrediting his honesty ahead of the General Election.
Both Ngunjiri and Wainaina are contesting the Othaya parliamentary seat on Chama Cha Kazi (CCK) and United Democratic Alliance (UDA) respectively.
The issue emanates from a ruling made by a Nairobi Court where Ngunjiri was alongside others facing forgery and obtaining cash where him and his co-accused were put on their defence.
The story was published in the Daily Nation on Friday. It is the basis of that ruling that one of Wainaina’s supporter James Kibe Kinyua is said to have gone round the constituency enlightening the locals.
In a letter drafted by Ngunjiri’s lawyer Supeo Karei to Wainaina and Kinyua, the two are said to have contributed in discrediting him by among others giving false information.
The letter says that Ngunjiri was portrayed as a thief, having stolen Sh300m from a dairy firm and Sh700m from tea farmers.
Further, Kinyua is said to have gone round claiming that Ngunjiri was being sought by police over the same.
Ngunjiri want the duo to admit liability and apologise to him.
