Othaya Member of Parliament Gichuki Mugambi has urged voters to scrutinise leaders offering themselves for various political seats in the upcoming General Election.
The MP says voters in some places will live to regret in the next five years if they make a mistake of going for leaders who have nothing to offer.
Speaking in Mahiga Ward in his constituency during the disbursement of bursary to thousands of needy students, Mugambi said he was optimistic of recapturing the seat due to his development record.
In his address at Mumwe and Mahiga Community centres, the MP outlined some of achievements since he took office in 2017.
He cited education, health and infrastructure as some of the sectors where he had concentrated his efforts and where the locals had very positive impacts.
During the disbursement of bursary which has been taking place since Monday, a total of about 7,000 needy students in various secondary, tertiary and university institutions benefitted from the Sh42 million which the local National Government – Constituency Development Fund ( NG-CDF) had this financial year set aside.
The Sh42 million is the highest amount disbursed in a single year.
The NG-CDF team which is chaired by Dr Muthoga Ngera has since assuming office after the 2017 General Election been increasing the bursary allocation in order to cater for the ever rising number of bright and needy students.
The previous team which had its highest allocation at about Sh15 million.
Unlike previously when vetting and allocation was done at constituency level, Dr Muthoga’s team does it at sub-location level so as to make the process as transparent as possible.
The MP yesterday disclosed that nearly 9,000 students applied for the bursary but all could not be given due to the limitation of cash.
