The Spouse of the Deputy President Pastor Dorcas Rigathi presided over the graduation of the second cohort of men who have been rehabilitated from alcoholism, drugs and substance abuse in her rehabilitation program.
The colorful graduation of 132 men took place in Olkalou, Nyandarua County and brought together men who were rehabilitated at the ASK Showgrounds in Nairobi and Marylyn Wellness Centre in Limuru in Kiambu County.
“These are the economic drivers of this country, and we cannot afford to leave them in the gutters,” she said.

“To the reporter (Johana Chacha) I will offer you a job in my office so that you can help me to talk to others who are still in drug abuse,” she said.
In September this year the first cohort of 85 men graduated after a 3-months successful rehabilitation’s increase in the number, from 85 to 132. Pastor Dorcas said it is an evident of the desire of men suffering from addiction to reform.
She called on the society to collaborate in integrating them back into the society and say no to drug barons.
“If we all join hands and come out together, we will fight the drugs and substance abuse menace. Together we will eliminate this menace (Drugs abuse) in this country. And I thank the President and His Deputy for joining hands in the fight against alcoholism, drugs and substance abuse,” she said.
Nairobi County Woman Rep Esther Passaris who graced the occasion also lauded the program which she said is not just timely but in the right direction.
“There are so many that need help, but they needed it most because they were lost. You (Pastor Dorcas) have raised the bar on spirituality and given them hope,” she said.
Some of the rehabilitated men have already been placed under the ongoing housing programs in various parts of the country.
The second cohort is now placed at a facility in Olkalou in Nyandarua where they will receive technical training.
The county government of Nyandarua has also promised to involve some of the rehabilitated men in some works.
Nyandarua Governor Kiarie Badilisha said, “What you are doing for the boychild in Kenya is unforgettable. What Pastor Dorcas is doing, many leaders in the past have feared doing it, but you have faced it and you are conquering it.”
NACADA CEO Dr Anthony Omerikwa said that his organization will continue partnering with the office of the Spouse of the Deputy President in rehabilitating the men.
“We have actually realized a practical realization on how you can change lives. Pastor Dorcas, we are now learning from you we will walk with you this way. We will ask for a bigger budget to run through such activities and the outcome of what you have done is a true testament,” he said.
The County Government of Nyandarua will also train the young men on how to make tents.
Parents and family members were also present to witness their sons, fathers and brothers who were issued with certificates graduate. Others present were Nyandarua County First Lady Grace Kiarie and other leaders.
