Presidential Advisor On Women Rights Joins Nandi Empowerment Forum

Over 2000 widows over the weekend came together at Chepterit Girls High School, Nandi County, for a Widows Empowerment Forum.
This event witnessed a remarkable turnout as it shed light on the unique struggles widows face, including inheritance challenges, economic vulnerability, and societal stigma.
The forum also celebrated the widow’s strength and resilience as key pillars of their communities.
Ms Harriette Chiggai, the President’s Advisor on Women’s Rights, who joined them reaffirmed her unwavering commitment to empowering women, particularly widows, through initiatives like The Bottom-up Economic Transformation Agenda and the “Safe Homes Safe Spaces” program.
She emphasized the importance of financial literacy, economic independence and tackling gender-based violence to create safe and inclusive spaces for widows.
The event that was hosted by the County Government of Nandi, the forum brought together various leaders and partners including area Deputy Governor Dr. Yulita Chebotip Cheruiyot, area Women Rep. Cynthia Muge, Kenya Industrial Estates chairperson Lilly Ngok, Secretary Gender (PETS) Esther Mukiri and many others.
The leaders noted that the forum symbolizes a renewed dedication to uplifting widows and advancing gender equality where together, they can build a future where all women thrive with dignity and opportunity.
