Health PS Susan Mochache has assured public not panic on Monkeypox virus outbreak since the government is well prepared by putting all mechanism at all entry points to contain the virus.
According to World Health Organization (WHO) the monkey pox virus has reached to 17 countries with 110 confirmed cases and 205 suspected cases.
Speaking in Kisii County PS said that, Kenyan government has put in place robust surveillance mechanisms and it has also tightened surveillance systems at entry points to help detect any case of monkeypox entering into the country.
“We have nothing to fear, we are going to use the same surveillance mechanisms we used during Covid19, we are going to reactivate the same mechanism to respond to the monkeypox outbreak and also have the capacity to test,” she said.
The PS noted Monkeypox outbreak is going on in Europe, a disease preferred in West Africa but this time it moved to Europe.
She noted the virus transmits once gets close to a person with Monkeypox or an animal with this disease or touching clothing or beddings that has been contaminated by the virus.
“Within a period of one to three or seven days you start experiencing, a rush fever, muscle aches and some bigger chickenpox like symptoms which are not itchy but painful, “she said.
According to her the government has a capacity to test where they suspect any case ,with the mechanism which was successfully used during Covid19 19 , and have nothing to worry about because it has not presented here or the neighbouring countries.
She urged the public to adhere to the ministry of health guideliness.
