Residents and traders of Bobaracho area, Nyaribari Chache constituency in Kisii County have urged the county government to recognize Bobaracho market and tax traders during the main market days.
Led by the market manager and clan elder, George Getwambu said they will not allow a proposal by some officials in other markets to push the county government to close the market and relocate the traders to neighboring markets.
Speaking during stakeholders’ meeting at the market, he said the market is one of the oldest in the area, stressing traders are ready to be taxed instead of closing it and forcing them to go to Kegati market, along Kisii- Keroka road.
“The market has a lot of traders who are not taxed. They are willing to pay the taxes on the market day- Saturdays to boost the county’s revenue” Getwambu noted.
Area Assistant Chief, Vincent Omanwa said the market is within Kisii Municipality and a business hub, adding if the market is closed; it will affect residents and learners from neighboring learning Institutions.

The chief the records were necessary so that relatives of the tenants could be informed in case they died or were ill and needed their kin to be contacted to help them.
Omanwa, accompanied by Bosongo location chief, Ayienda Mokaya and community policing chairman, Stephen Masigwa told youths using wifi the area ward Representative, Ibrahim Ongubo’s residence and Gusii Water and sanitation Company to use it between 7.pm and 8.p.m.
He warned the youths found loitering beyond the time will be arrested by members of community policing and taken to court to face the law, stressing he will not heed calls by their parents to release them.
“We have heard cases where youths attack people at night on their way home. Some are abusing drugs and alcohol. I challenge their parents to counsel them to avoid the vices” Omanwa noted.
