Former DP Rigathi Gachagua being welcomed at Kihoya AIPCA church in Kangema constituency, Murang’a county yesterday.

Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) Party Leader and former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has dismissed President William Ruto’s purported economic empowerment as contempt to Mt Kenya region.
Speaking in Kihoya AIPCA church in Kangema constituency, Murang’a county, Gachagua said that the residents of the region are hard working and entrepreneurial who need development and inputs and not relief supplies as is happening currently.
He wondered why the rice and beans are only being distributed in the region and not other areas in the country, yet there is no famine.
Why waste our hard working women’s entire day under tents only to give them rice, beens and Ksh500?,” wondered the DCP party chief.
The former second in command also alleged that the Head of State had schemed a deliberate plan to downscale the community’s economic, political and social power by branding them tribal, harassing their political leaders as well as sacking senior civil servants from the community.
“Recently he ordered the degazettement of ICT Authority board members for renewing the contract of the CEO Stanley Kamanguya simply because of where he comes from,” lamented Riggy-G.
He further claimed that all senior police officers from the region who have all been moved to peripheral stations while almost all stations and divisions are manned by those from the president’s community.
In a stopover in Othaya town, the party chief urged the residents to restore the dignity of the constituency to the level the late Mwai Kibaki left it.
“We cannot afford to watch as a constituency elevated to one of the most well led in the country to decline to an eyesore”, declared the former DP.
He reiterated his assertion that his party will not dish out direct tickets to any aspirant but all will have to sweat it out adding that intellect will be one of the qualifications.
“Indeed, aspirants will have to engage in a public debate as one of qualifications to secure a ticket as we will not allow ourselves to be led anymore by tugege (zombies),” he declared.
Countless elected leaders and aspirants accompanied Gachagua, both in church and various stopovers.
In church, he was accompanied by among others; Murang’a Senator Joe Nyutu, Embakasi North MP James Gakuya among others.
He made stopovers at Kihoya and Wanjerere shopping centres in Kangema constituency, Kiriani town in Mathioya constituency with the last being Othaya town in Nyeri County.
At Othaya, those who welcomed him were led by the party’s county coordinator Wanyaga Gathaka and several leaders aspiring various seats.
Gachagua wondered why the president has been branding the community as tribal yet they knew too well that he was not one of their own but voted for him almost to a man.
“I led my community in making him into state house and I will lead them in kicking him out through the same ballot,” the former number two vowed.
